ADVANCED COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS prides itself in being a locally owned company that is firmly based in the community, we live in the community, shop in the community, and try to give back to the community in as many ways as we can. Our General Manager, Joe Girard originally came to King City, CA from Eugene, OR in the late 1970's to become chief engineer of the local cable television system serving King City and Greenfield. After being promoted and transferred to Lake Tahoe he decided to leave the company and left the area to build one of the 1st addressable advanced cable systems in Saratoga, California. He then became Regional Engineering Manager for Showtime & MTV. While at Showtime he participated in the launch of one of the first pay per view television services and developed a switching system that controlled the scrambling access control system used to authorize the set top convertors. Next, he became Director of Engineering for one of the largest cable television system operators in the US. Upon the sale of that company he helped develop one of the first technologies to transmit digital signals over an analog cable TV plant, this technology was the forerunner to services such as Dish Network, DirecTV, SiriusXM, and many others that are commonly used today. As a result of this experience he was selected to build the lab that was used to trial the Advanced Communications Network for Pacific Bell which was the first network to transmit all four advanced services (High speed internet, telephone service, cable television, and fully interactive pay per view services) currently offered by cable television systems worldwide. Upon completion of the lab's construction, he was asked to join Pacific Bell where he participated in the development of the standards and designs for many of the components used in the Pacific Bell ACN network. Many of those designs and products have been adopted by the industry as national standards. In 1998 he was asked to investigate the cause and develop a corrective action plan for a major network defect in the DS-3 network. This effort resulted in a complete redesign of the manufacturing processes and installation methods of the BNC connectors & 734 / 735 cables used in the network. New Installation tool kits were developed that provided traceability to the technician performing the installation. His designs and processes were implemented by all of the SBC companies which resulted in a significant reduction in service impacting defects and resulted in major financial savings to SBC. Prior to his retirement in 2002 he managed the Network Installation Quality Assurance (NIQA) group in California and Nevada for SBC/West (Pacific and Nevada Bell) with his team having responsibility for maintaining network installation reliability in 600+ central offices over two states, administering over fifty contracting firms installing the latest communications equipment as well as working with the leaders of SBC's two other regional Quality Groups to develop the Network Installation, Engineering, and Powering standards used in All SBC facilities. These same standards were integrated into AT&T upon their being acquired by SBC.

Upon his retirement in 2002 he began consulting to numerous companies in the US and entered into his own business endeavors. In 2012 he and his partner decided to relocate to King City. Upon getting settled they learned that the Pine Canyon area was lacking in quality High Speed Internet, and the result was SoMoCo Wireless. Upon his partners decision to relocate back to Monterey the decision was made to close SoMoCo and he decided to enter into a new endeavor which became Advanced Communications Networks (ACN) which better described all of the capabilities of the new company. We attempt to bring all of the key learnings from his experience both good and bad to how we operate ACN. While we are not perfect we continually strive to improve and offer quality products at fair & reasonable prices.
